Morrigan was mainly written by David Gaider, the lead writer of Origins. While she is not a playable companion in Inquisition, she is a major participant in the continuation of a lengthy plotline which began about midway through Origins, which would culminate in a milestone moment for the character. If the player chooses to play as a male protagonist, Morrigan can be romanced. Her outlook on life is best described as " survival of the fittest", and she will approve if the Warden's choices match her beliefs. Morrigan is quick to show her amoral worldview she disapproves of actions that benefit people she perceives as worthless and/or which do not further the Warden's personal cause, such as helping a beggar or settling a dispute in Lothering. Morrigan's refusal to conform makes her an apostate, a rogue mage who is isolated from civilization and an outsider who doesn't represent a facet of the world she is thus presented as a cynical and antisocial witch in a world where many mages are feared for their power. The practice of magic is sanctioned and regulated by the Chantry, the dominant religious organisation of Thedas, and it is obligatory for all individuals with potential for magical powers to enroll in the Circle of Magi. Morrigan's upbringing is drastically different than most characters encountered in Thedas, the setting of the Dragon Age series, and as a result she has not had many interactions or relationships with others because of it. The character was featured prominently in promotional material and advertisements released by Bioware's parent company EA leading up to the release of Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Inquisition. Morrigan has been very well received she is considered one of the most popular and recognizable characters in the Dragon Age series. Morrigan also appears in Dragon Age: Inquisition as a supporting character. Morrigan leaves her home to accompany the protagonist of Origins, the would-be Hero of Ferelden, at the request of her mother Flemeth to stop the monstrous Darkspawn from overrunning the world of Thedas. She is a shapeshifting Witch of the Wilds, one of several sorceresses whose legends originate in the Korcari Wilds region of the kingdom of Ferelden, the setting of Origins. Though the Spirit's benevolent nature prevented this, Wynne was - at least in The Chantry's eyes- an Abomination.Morrigan is a fictional character from BioWare's Dragon Age franchise, first appearing as a party member in Dragon Age: Origins. When a mage becomes possessed, their minds and physical forms are usually twisted and deformed beyond recognition. For all intents and purposes, Wynne was possessed. This act of kindness came at great cost however, as Wynne was slowly draining the Spirit of its strength, as its life force was the only thing sustaining her. She goes on to state that she did, in fact, die in the aftermath of the fight, but a comforting presence saved her consciousness from passing on.Ī Spirit of Faith had been watching over Wynne since she was a child, helping to guide her whenever she was in The Fade and intervened to save her life.

She reveals that before The Warden came to help save the Feredlan Circle of Magi, she fought a mighty demon that took all her strength to defeat. Sometime after The Warden recruits her to fight The Fifth Blight, Wynne experiences a particularly bad cause of nausea and fatigue, nearly passing out after a battle. As a result, the other details of her character have also been rather mysterious, or at the very least unclear to more casual players of the dark fantasy series. Noted for being kindhearted, level-headed, and rather humorous, The Spirit Healer's continued involvement in the world of Thedas has often gone overlooked (mostly because it's not depicted or mentioned in any sequel games). Having appeared as Dragon Age: Origins' default mage healer, Wynne is a senior enchanter of The Circle of Magi.

Oftentimes, their previous relationships with the player character will have shaped how they turned out and affect their subsequent involvement in the plot. Being the expansive series that it is, it's only natural for characters and companions from previous Dragon Agegames to pop up in one form or another in sequels.
